Going from Sydney to Melbourne? Make sure to not miss these attractions.

 

It’s a global fact that Australia is one of the most fascinating continents in the world. They possess some of the world’s greatest monuments, natural attractions, and beautiful and friendly people! If the exotic animals and lovely flora are not reason enough for you to visit, then the exciting things to do on every corner should be. Every city has a unique flair. But if you’re only visiting Sydney and Melbourne, these are the must-go-to places on your checklist.

 

Whether you’re a local who is looking for a new adventure or an upcoming tourist who doesn’t know where to start—here are the most exciting things to do in the most bustling cities “Down Under!” There’s always something to do for both the nature lovers and the city dwellers.

 

Sydney

 

  1. Look over at the Sydney Harbor Bridge

 

 

The Sydney Harbor Bridge may only be a road for cars and other vehicles, but it is one of the most stunning views in the entire city. You can settle down at the park at the base of the North end of the bridge with a picnic to watch the sun set behind the tall steel arch. If you’re looking for the perfect place to take a photo—this is it!

 

  1. Visit the Sydney Opera House

 

 

The Sydney opera house is a performing arts venue that hosts over 40 shows a week! Tickets can be pricey since this is the most famous stage in the world—so for a free trip you can spend the day marveling outside just to enjoy the grand sculpture. The Opera House was first debuted in 1973 and has been noted as the most unique structure in the world by the most travelled visitors in the 46 years of its standing. Taking a shot of the Sydney Opera House will show your friends and family that you’re definitely in Sydney!

 

  1. Soak up the sun at Bondi Beach

 

 

Bondi Beach is the largest and longest beach in all of Australia. The neighborhood surrounding the sand possesses some of the most notable coffee shops, ice cream stands, and avocado toast restaurants in the city. You can take your ice cream cone down to the seashore and enjoy it while lying on the sand. A little known fact about this beach is that there is a hotel attached to the right-hand side that has a swimming pool directly over the ocean. The view is open to the public—check out the swimming pool that looks like it’s a part of the sea!

 

  1. Go to The Rocks

 

 

The Rocks contains an open-air marketplace that has many little shops, street food stands, and fashionable stores that tourists and locals can find any flavor or handmade item in Sydney. The area is most recognized for their oldest pubs, so grab a local brew while you’re visiting. There are also high-end restaurants, The Museum of Contemporary Art, and there are always at least two performers on the street.

Sydney is the most iconic staple of Australia, especially with it’s Opera House, but the capital of the country is actually Canberra!

 

Melbourne

 

  1. Drink wine at the Yarra River

 

 

You can travel the scenic Yarra River by boat at the Southgate, or walk alongside it to visit the plethora of waterside shops. Surrounding the river are a multitude of festivals including the famous Moomba festival, rowing regattas, the Melbourne Festival, and Dragon Boat Festivals. There are several wineries all across the river that offer wine-tastings, bread and cheese, and locals who are happy to answer all questions you have about the history of Melbourne!

 

  1. Shop at the Queen Victoria Market

 

 

The Queen Victoria Market is considered the ultimate landmark of Melbourne. Shockingly, the market has been around since 1878! It is an open-air market displaying Victorian architecture and features over 100 small stalls of locally produced food and crafts. If you’re looking for the best bratwurst in town, this is the place.

 

  1. Visit the Royal Botanic Gardens

 

 

The Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne stretch over a whopping 89 acres on the south side of the Yarra River. There is a surplus of trees, lakes, gardens, and lawns over the property. Entrance is free, as long as you respect this protected land! Upon entering, watch out for kangaroos and other Australia-native wildlife. There is also an abundance of plant species you cannot find anywhere else. If you enjoy nature, you’ll greatly appreciate the visit.

 

Fun fact about Melbourne!

The most famous man to come out of Melbourne is Liam Hemsworth, who has done several Hollywood films alongside fellow Australian, Rebel Wilson. He is now the husband of Miley Cyrus!
